A Fragile Empire - Noam Chomsky

Legendary activist and scholar Noam Chomsky joined last week’s Economic Update to discuss how American fascism is being used to hold onto power and destroy the country at the same time. With global politics shifting around military power, Chomsky’s insights are precious and powerful.

Richard Wolff told us the world is splitting apart. Noam Chomsky is here to tell us that the United States is fragile and ready to break.

Legendary activist and scholar Noam Chomsky joined last week’s Economic Update to discuss how American fascism is being used to hold onto power and destroy the country at the same time. With global politics shifting around military power, Chomsky’s insights are precious and powerful. Watch or listen to him on Economic Update: Noam Chomsky on Fragile US Empire.

Noam Chomsky argues that conflicts inside the U.S. threaten its international empire. A rogue political party is throwing out all decorum and sabotaging the country to make the Democrats look bad.

"It's very interesting to see how in the internally dysfunctional United States this problem is being faced. So, it's commonly observed that Congress is dysfunctional. Can't do anything. That's a curious way of saying that the Republican Party has simply gone off the rails.”

In another dire warning, Chomsky informed Wolff that Trump attempted to replace much of the federal government with Trump loyalists. Fascism is just steps from becoming a constant reality for the United States and causing the empire to collapse from within.

“That's outright fascism, not proto-fascism."

America may be miles ahead in military might, but China is overcoming economic barriers. This is where the U.S. is losing ground, and Europe is in between the conflict of U.S. & China as a trade partner and geopolitical barrier. And the only way U.S. politicians have been able to address economic development and infrastructure repair is by framing it as the “China Competition Act”.

In the military dimension, no combination of states is even close [to the United States]. In other, what's called soft power, like trade, commercial relations and so on, it's being overcome by China… What's Chinese aggression? Well, it's not off the coast of California. There are confrontations off the border of China, but the main Chinese aggression is its development, which cannot be contained by military force.”

Wolff & Chomsky are able to talk about the “loss of China”, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, NATO and more in just a short 15 minutes!
