“Democracy Rising: Neoliberalism and Social Unrest: From the Arab Spring to Occupy to the Case of Syriza”
Creston Davis, PhD in Partnership with European Alternatives & The Brooklyn Commons

GCAS (Global Center for Action Studies) is pleased that the renowned economist, Richard Wolff will be speaking in our “Democracy Rising” workshop at the Brooklyn Commons this Saturday at 11 am. The event is free and open to the public (with a suggested donation of $10 that will go to support Democracy at Work).

Livestreaming will be available at http://thecommonsbrooklyn.org/node/770

Capitalism is relocating to new centers in China, India, Brazil, etc. In its old centers, e.g., the US, economic prospects darken. Middle and lower incomes stagnate. Multinational businesses and those they enrich force governments to lower taxes on them and then either raise personal taxes, cut public services or both. Severe decline results (Detroit, Greece, etc) punctuated by severe cyclical downturns. But alternatives exist. Changing the organization of our enterprises offers a way to a far better future.

The question that grounds this workshop focuses on democracy, financial capitalism and social organization.

FOR CREDIT: The cost of this workshop is $150 (credit) for 13 sessions (see syllabus below) and there are no prerequisites. You may take this course at the Brooklyn Commons or remotely (online) in our live interactive e-school platform.
