Economy in Crisis and a Real Solution

RDW_Boston_041216.png

The Economics Liaison and the Economics Department are pleased to present a public lecture by Professor Richard Wolff, titled “Economy in Crisis and a Real Solution.” A lifelong scholar-activist, Wolff describes an economy in crisis, marked by ever-deeper inequality, ecological dangers, and politics corrupted by money. The crisis has outgrown reform agendas. A real solution requires system change, to reorganize our enterprises (offices, factories, and stores) into democracies where each employee has an equal vote on what the enterprise produces, how, and where, and what is done with enterprise profits. Wolff shows how democratizing enterprises can move society beyond a crisis-ridden capitalism that no longer "delivers the goods" to most people.

The Simmons Alumnae/i Association, the Student Government Association, and the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences provided generous support. Cosponsoring organizations and majors/programs: Democracy Matters, Environmental Science, History, Honors, Modern Languages & Literatures, Philosophy, Political Science & International Relations, Sociology, and Women’s & Gender Studies.

This event is free and open to the public.
