d@w-Los Angeles: Monthly Meeting
This is an independent event hosted by a d@w-Group. Please direct all questions to the contact listed below.
Greetings friends! This month is all about the gaming industry and barriers to class consciousness within it and other similar fields. Why are so many workers against unionization? Why do people always say "coops don't work"? How can we talk to our fellow workers in a way that's productive? Be prepared to workshop and discuss!
After our discussion, we're very excited to welcome Michael and K of Game Workers Unite LA, an organization seeking to connect pro-union activists, exploited workers, and allies across disciplines, classes, and countries in the name of building a unionized game industry. Michael has worked as customer support representative for Gazillion Entertainment from 2014 up until the company’s bankruptcy in 2017, where employees were laid off without severance or payout for accumulated PTO. After a 10 month break from the games, he's returned to the industry in an internal support role at a Los Angeles-area publisher. K is a game designer and producer from Los Angeles who believes a fair, equitable and just future for games is necessary.
