About this Event
The U.S. failure to prepare for the coronavirus provoked a worldwide economic crash. The reason, according to leading economist, Richard D. Wolff: the global capitalist system. Driven by enterprises that are in turn driven by profit as their “bottom lines,” capitalist economies neither produced, stockpiled, nor located the materials and trained personnel needed to minimize the damage done by the pandemic.
Similar viruses have threatened modern civilization for centuries. This time though, the coronavirus threat was so bad that that it spiraled into a pandemic that fed into a global capitalism already on the verge of a crisis. The result is now one of the worst crashes in the system’s history.
The gross inefficiency of global capitalism is on full display. Its failure to insure a fundamental responsibility of ALL economic systems - the peoples’ health and safety – is raising profound, lasting, and far-reaching criticisms of the system itself. In this webinar. Dr. Wolff - host of Economic Update and founder of Democracy at Work - will explore these criticisms and what social movements are emerging to make a transition beyond capitalism.
