Ask Prof Wolff: Why Texas Bans Abortion

A Patron of Economic Update asks: "I very much enjoyed your answer about the economic impacts of the abortion ban laws in Texas. Usually, there's some greedy motivation for the laws we see getting passed (Voting "safety" laws, Anti protest laws, laws protecting the secret origins of dark money, laws that make our drug prices higher). Who benefits from the anti-abortion laws? I don't see any winners in this one."

This is Professor Richard Wolff's video response.

Banning abortion is an attempt to resurrect the old days and a yearning to honor our mythical past greatness. As nations become influenced by fascist politics, there is a tactic used to where the leader manufactures a past that is far more grandiose that reality suggests. Followers become absorbed in this mythical past and want to bring it back. Our rise in fascist thinking has brought about a need to ban modern concepts like abortion.
