Changing Economies, Crises, and our Economic Future
Changing Economies, Crises, and our Economic Future
The capitalist economic system is relocating from old centers (western Europe, north America, Japan, etc.) to new (China, India, Brazil, etc.). Results include global turmoil, economic crises, and mounting conflicts. Old institutions (corporations, stock markets, unions, governments, etc.) can no longer manage as they once did. Economic well-being falls for most as costs rise, wages and benefits shrink, homelessness jumps, social services contract, and police/prisons replace anti-poverty programs. Demands rise for reforms but also for system change. Historic challenges confront capitalism from within and from new alternative systems.
